Movie Overview
The Age of Innocence is Edith Wharton’s twelfth novel, at first serialized in four sections in the Pictorial Review magazine in 1920, and later discharged by D. Appleton and Company as a book in New York and in London.he Age of Innocence focuses on a privileged couple’s approaching marriage, and the lady’s presentation cousin, tormented by embarrassment, whose vicinity undermines their bliss. In spite of the fact that the novel inquiries the suspicions and ethics of 1870s New York society, it never forms into a by and large judgment of the organization.
Indeed, Wharton considered this novel a statement of regret for her prior novel, The House of Mirth, which was more merciless and basic. The novel is noted for Wharton’s meticulousness and its exact depiction of how the nineteenth century East Coast American high society lived, and the social disaster of its plot. Wharton was 58 years of age at distribution; she had lived in that world and had seen it change significantly before the end of World War I.
